Sweater vessels.
Inspiration
I wanted a cozy ,sweater like product. It was originally going to be a yarn, knit, sewn item. Then, I saw a pottery vase at a party to inspire.
Instructions
Using a new to me product, Paper clay, and upcycled jelly jars and goodwill ceramics, I made it look like cable knit.
choose an under vessel with top and bottom roughly same circumference. If it’s clear glass, paint if desired.
using skills learned in pre-K, roll clay into snakes,braid or twist and push into surface. Press to form. knife off excess. I also tried one with pressed on clay and imprinted with kitchen tools-grater,fork,etc. Let air dry. I didn’t want cracks ,so I covered with Saran for first overnight.
Lessons Learned and Highlights
Keep clay in ziplock between jobs. Don’t use objects with varying widths. The tin can worked well, but rusted on top-covering with duct tape should prevent. Don’t drop. May be flammable.
